Oia is located on the northern tip of the island, about 11 km northwest of Fira, at an altitude of approximately 121 meters.
It's the most famous village of Santorini, known for its amazing sunset. It's probably the most beautiful place of the island.
Oia reached the peak of prosperity in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Its economic prosperity was based on its merchant fleet, which plied trade in the Eastern Mediterranean, especially from Alexandria to Russia.
